I moved to the Tule Springs area in 1974. It was pretty sparse out there in those days, so I was surprised to hear a knock at my door one day. It was Mary Ellen. She stopped by to welcome me, and my family, to the neighborhood. She was a one woman welcome wagon! Soon after she started to invite me over for coffee and cookies so I could meet the women in the area. It was her way of getting everyone to know each other. Our sons, Benton and Troy, played together for a long time. The backyard pool at Mary Ellen’s was a hit with all the kids! The most touching moment I had with Mary Ellen came in 1983. I had just gone through a nasty divorce…..it was a secret to no one in the neighborhood. I was walking up Pioneer to the mail box, when Mary Ellen drove by in her van. I watched her put her brakes on and back up. She got out of her van, and waited for me to reach Racel Rd. When I got there, she flung open her arms and said: “Give me a hug!” Yeah, it warmed my heart and still does. It’s hard for me to believe she’s not out there somewhere conducting business for the Gilcrease men. If I wasn’t fighting my own battle against cancer, I would have been at her funeral,,,,,I will always regret that I couldn’t be there. The Lord says: “Blessed are they that mourn, for they shall be comforted.” That you shall be comforted,,,,that’s what I pray for all of you who loved her.

We remember your exuberant wife and mother from the time you all lived across the street from us. Mary Ellen showed me how to use a huge backyard to throw a party out of a small house. we remember those years with a smile. We hope that happy memories will ease the sadness of her passing.

Joanie and Family, It broke my heart to hear your mom was ill and when she passed away. I was glad to hear that you made it here and was able to spend time with her. I am glad everyone was able to hug and love her, since that is what she did the best. She had a way to make everyone feel that they were important, loved and that everything will be ok. I am glad that I had a chance to know your mom and my heart goes out to all those who loved and cared for her, such a deep loss. It was such a pleasure to have been able to share her, just a bit, with you.

My condolences to the family. It may be that a persons spirit is so strong that it never completely leaves the Earth but remains scattered forever among all those who loved them. The nice thing about time is that after a while you remember only the good things, which is as it should be

Mom’s Sayings

You are as welcome as the flowers that bloom in the Springtime. And that’s pretty welcome!

Achoo! My Goodness! You’ve started to sneeze! Take out a clean hanky right quick, if you please!

I always wanted to be perfect.

Good Morning, Mary Sunshine! How did you wake so soon? You scared the little birds away and shone away the moon!

Good Morning to You! Good Morning to You! We’re all in our places with sunshiney faces. Oh, this is the way, to start a new day.

Gimme a Hug, willya, huh? And I’ll give it right back to you.

Can’t was killed in the Battle of Try.

We’re on the same page, but are we in the same book?

You love people the way that they are, and not the way they’re not.

Nahmah yab.

Patience is a virtue, and virtue is a grace, and Grace is a little girl who has a dirty face.

Brush your hair; you look like an orphan.

I love you, a bushel and a peck, a bushel and a peck and a hug around the neck, A hug around the neck, and a barrell and a heap, a barrel and a heap and I’m talkin’ in my sleep about you, about you. I love you, a bushel and a peck! You bet your pretty neck, I do! Do do do do do do, do do do do do do, do do do do do do dooooooooooooooo
